Don't Be Detracted

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Tuesday morning, the 13th of June, 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“Do not say, “I will recompense evil”; Wait for the Lord, and He will save you.”
Proverbs 20:22

Then we go straight to the Second Book of Samuel in the Old Testament:

“It may be that the Lord will look on my affliction, and that the Lord will repay me with good for his cursing this day.”
2 Samuel 16:12

Remember the story of Shimei, who went along the hillside opposite King David and cursed him as he went, throwing stones at him and even kicking up dust. Remember, this is King David that he is doing this to. David as a youngster, killed a giant. You can imagine David’s men saying, “King David, sort him out, deal with him, he is just a little runt!” But David said, “No, leave him.” If we look at John 19:9, we see the same thing with the Lord Jesus Christ. When Pilate questioned Him about who He was, Jesus gave him no answer.

Maybe you are sitting there today and saying, “But it is not fair. These people are not being dealt with. I have been unjustly criticised.” Leave it. You know, an old friend of mine, Lukey, said to me years ago, when I was accused of something I didn’t do, “There is a saying and it goes something like this - eagles don’t chase flies.” "Aquila non capit muscas” That is the Latin version. Another good friend of mine took a piece of wood and carved that Latin quotation in the wood, and it sits in a prominent place in my quiet time room, to this day.

Eagles go up to high places, eagles tackle the prey that they can eat and leave those little flies to the house birds. You and I, like King David, must not be detracted, we must not be taken off our course by accusations which have no truth in them, by people who are throwing stones at us. We must rise to the occasion and keep on with the mission that God has called us to.

Jesus bless you today as you concentrate and focus on the things of God.
Goodbye.
