A Clear Conscience

It is Sunday morning. I greet you in Jesus’ precious name. It is the 2nd of October, 2022 and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

Acts 23:1 in the New Testament says:

“Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day.”

I looked up the Oxford Dictionary to find out the meaning of the word conscience - It is a person’s moral sense of right and wrong. It keeps standards, values, beliefs and principles. A good conscience earns the right to be respected. Remember, we always say, people don’t have to like us but they must respect us. Folk who have a clear conscience are people like Paul. He was fearless in front of the Sanhedrin and the High Priest because he walked in truth, he had nothing to hide. That is how we need to be today. You see, the Lord Jesus said in the Gospel of John:

“Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.”

John 17:17

The Bible is our gauge concerning having a good conscience. If we live according to the words that are written in the Bible, then we will have a clear conscience. When you have no conscience then you have nothing left in this life. If we look at Matthew 26:15, we see a man who threw away his conscience for a mere thirty pieces of silver. Yes, I am talking about one of Jesus’ twelve disciples, his name was Judas Iscariot. He threw away his conscience for thirty pieces of silver and you know what happened? That's right, he was tormented. So much so, that he even took the thirty pieces of silver back to the High Priest and the Council and gave it to them and then he went out and he still had no peace. He took a rope and tied it around his neck. He tied the rope to the tree and he jumped off, he committed suicide. He killed himself because he could not find any peace. You see, he forfeited his peace, his authority and his very life, for thirty pieces of silver - Don’t do it!

I want to pray for you today. I really feel some people need to get a clear conscience. It is muddied at the moment and you need to wash your hands and say, “Lord, please forgive me.” Pray this prayer after me:

Dear Lord Jesus, today, I am convicted that my conscience has been muddied and I want it to be cleansed. Please forgive me.

I renounce anything in my life that has kept me from walking in truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God bless you and have a wonderful Sunday, goodbye.
