Confession
I greet you in Jesus’ precious name. It is Friday morning, 29th July 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.
“Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”
James 5:16
There is power that is available in the prayer of confession, of saying sorry. I am currently mentoring a group of men. These men range in age from 12 to 70 years old. Just the other day we met and read this Scripture very carefully together, with much fear and trepidation. After we had read that Scripture, one by one, the men and boys started to walk to the front of this large group of men. Some of them for the first time in their lives started to confess to God, in our presence and the presence of their trusted brothers in Christ, any areas of unconfessed sin where the devil had had them chained and shackled for years.
I want to say to you, my dear friend, that very rarely in my 40-plus years of serving the Lord, have I ever experienced, the tangible presence of the love of God like I did that night. Weeping and genuine sorrow at having disappointed the Master was confessed, and then after that, the sheer elation of leaving their confessed sin at the foot of the Cross and having their brothers as witnesses for when the devil would try to bring it up again and being totally delivered from the accusations of satan. Then there was the joy and the freedom of having had the courage to do it - it was very beautiful. I saw fathers and sons weeping in each other’s arms, asking forgiveness. I saw men who had been carrying burdens on their shoulders for many years, leave it at the foot of the Cross.
It was so very beautiful. Something I shall never forget as long as I live.
Maybe we all should do it a lot more.
Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day.
Goodbye.
