Fathers

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Saturday morning, it is the 12th of November, 2022 and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. 

“No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations.”
Genesis 17:5

“…he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, “So shall your descendants be.”
Romans 4:18

I want to speak this morning about a fatherless generation. I have been in my prayer room for a long time and before I heard this word from God, I have been very anxious and also very sad about the fact that we are in a situation in our nation, and indeed the whole world, where we are faced with a fatherless generation. It concerns me a lot, and I can tell you that the devil’s agenda is to break families down. If he can get rid of the father he breaks the family. 

The father is there to be an example to his son, to be a protector of his wife and his daughters, and if he has abdicated the family is in disarray. I really want to salute mothers this morning. Thank God for mothers, wives and daughters. Where would we be without you? But I want to address the situation. Men must take their rightful place in the home - prophet, priest and king. They must lead their family. They must direct their family. They must also be the High Priest in the home.  

Dad, it is no good you telling your son he must follow Jesus and you can’t get out of your bed in the morning to have a quiet time, and then he must put food on the table. If you want to have respect from your family you need to feed them. You say, “I can’t get a job.” I understand that, but go and find something because you really need to feed your family. 

Then I just want to say to you moms and girls, daughters, pray for your dad. He is under tremendous pressure at work and in the social area of life. He has got to stand, but he needs a place to come home to where he will be loved and accepted. He doesn’t have to go to the pub to find friends. His friends should be at home. I really want to pray for dads right now because there is such a lack of fathers. I am mentoring almost 500 men around the world. They have asked me to help them.

Father, I pray for every man who is listening to this message. Lord, let them stand up, put their shoulders back and get back into the fight. I pray for every mother, every wife and every young girl, that they will stand with their man so that their home will be secure.
