Godly Generations

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Wednesday morning, the 26th of April, 2023 and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

Blessed is the man who fears the Lord,
Who delights greatly in His commandments.
His descendants will be mighty on earth;
The generation of the upright will be blessed.
Psalm 112:1-2

That's a promise from God my dear friends!

“But the posterity of the righteous will be delivered.”
Proverbs 11:21

As a result of being a godly man, his family, his children, his grandchildren and even his great-grandchildren will be rewarded because of his lifestyle. At Shalom, we have a foundation verse that the Lord gave to us in 1980, and it is found in Psalm 37:4 which says:

“Delight yourself also in the Lord,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart.”

I hear of many men of my age group who are putting money aside for their children and their grandchildren when they are no longer here and that is a wonderful thing to do. But I want to tell you, the greatest gift you can leave for your children or your children’s children is your example as a follower of Jesus Christ. I don’t know how many people I have met who have told me that when they were little boys/little girls they watched their grandparents early in the morning, reading the Word, and praying for their families. Remember, the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. The greatest gift you can give to your family is to pray for them daily, pray for their salvation, and pray for the peace of God to be in their hearts. Pray that they will succeed in what they are attempting to do in this life.

We need to get our priorities right. It's one thing to leave a lot of money behind for your children and your grandchildren but if they don’t know what to do with it and if they have no direction, no vision in life, it is actually a millstone that you are hanging around their neck. Rather pray for them that they will meet the Saviour of the world and that they also would be ambassadors for Jesus Christ. That is the greatest legacy you can leave for your family. The Lord has promised us that if we do that, our generation and the one to come will be blessed!

Have a wonderful day,
Jesus bless you and goodbye.
