Heaviness

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Saturday morning, the 5th of November 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“When the enemy comes in like a flood,
The Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him.”
Isaiah 59:19

“No weapon formed against you shall prosper,
And every tongue which rises against you in judgment
You shall condemn.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
And their righteousness is from Me,”
Says the Lord.”
Isaiah 54:17

David Wilkerson was the author of the book, “The Cross and the Switchblade.” It was a very, very popular book in the 1960s. He was a skinny preacher from the country and went to the ghettos in New York to help drug addicts, alcoholics, prostitutes and gangsters and God used him so powerfully. He said in one of his messages, “You shall have spells…” - what does that mean? You shall have moments and times of distress and pain. You shall have hardships and you don’t know where they are coming from because your family is in order, your wife, or husband is happy, the business is doing well, and the children are doing well at school but all of a sudden this heaviness comes upon you.

Do you know what I am speaking about my dear friend? You can’t explain it. It comes from nowhere. Often it comes just after you have had a wonderful success. Maybe you have just graduated from university, maybe you’ve just reaped a wonderful crop of corn, maybe you have just started a new business and all of a sudden, this heaviness comes upon you. Well, I want to tell you, according to David Wilkerson (who went to be with the Lord many years ago) and I agree with him - said it is the devil, its the evil one who comes in and tells you lies.

Now, this even happened to the Lord Jesus, Himself. Matthew 26:39 says:

“He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.”

In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus sweated blood.

I want to say to you that you need to stand. I can hear somebody saying, “But how do you get rid of this heaviness, this dark cloud that comes upon you out of nowhere - this depression, this fear, this anxiety?” There is only one way, and what I do is spend time with Jesus. Get into your closet, increase your quiet time, and spend time with fellow Christians. Phone them, ask them to pray with you and that heaviness will lift. It's not condemnation. You haven’t done anything wrong. It is an attack from the evil one, but remember, greater is He who is in you than He who is in the world.

Have a wonderful day.

Jesus bless you and goodbye.
