Measuring Our Words

“Therefore whatever you have spoken in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have spoken in the ear in inner rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops.”
Luke 12:3

Remember, if you haven’t got anything good to say about someone, then rather don’t say anything at all. You best let your words always be sweet because one day you might have to eat them. Unfortunately, that is an area that I am very much working on because I tend to speak before I think... and it gets me into trouble.

They say a new Christian should be locked up for the first six months because he is like a bull in a china shop! He is so full of exuberance and joy. He wants to tell everybody everything and sometimes he gets it wrong. Be careful how you talk. Remember that old saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never harm me?” That is an absolute lie - it is the other way around! If you get a couple of bones broken they will soon heal but when you say an ugly, damaging word it can stay with a person forever. We need to think before we speak because the Lord has told us, everybody will hear about it sooner or later.

Sometimes we need to count to ten before we say something and then once we have counted to ten we will probably never say it. You know, people are not really interested in your opinion. They are not interested in my opinion. They are only interested in God’s opinion. Before I preach, I always pray on my knees, publicly, before the crowd. Every time, I get on my knees because when you are on your knees you can’t fall any further, and I pray Psalm 19:14:

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight,
O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.”

Remember, a word spoken by faith can perform miracles, that’s right. It can open seas! It can heal a dying person, it can make a barren woman conceive and have a baby! Today, measure your words and let them be encouraging because people are hurting all over the world. Phone someone and give them a kind word today. Pray for somebody who is really taking strain today and you will be surprised at how good you will feel.

God bless you and have a wonderful Sunday.
