Holding Ground

It is Thursday morning, the 16th of March, 2023 and I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! This is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today.”
Exodus 14:13

“Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,…”
Ephesians 6:14

Holding ground! You know, we always want to do something, don’t we - instead of allowing the Lord Jesus Christ to do it for us? William Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army, his whole organisation is based on an army. They say that when the Salvation Army was at its height, it had more soldiers than any other army on earth, but these were not fighting soldiers, these were praying soldiers, the Salvation Army. Every time he left the citadel which was a fort, of course, they called it the citadel, not a church, every time he left to go to another country, he would say to his officers, “Hold the fort!”

We need to stand. Remember, the battle is the Lord’s, it is not our battle. We need to stand and it is a very difficult thing to do because we always want to be busy doing something, especially the younger people. As a young farmer myself, I remember planting a crop in faith, the seed was all under the ground and then after a few days starting to dig up the seed, to see if it had germinated or not. I had no fingernails left on my fingers, doubting - has the maize seed actually germinated, or is it there? Maybe the planter skipped and made gaps in the lines, and I would be on my knees, digging it up instead of waiting a couple of weeks, and then early in the morning, go out and see those beautiful green lines of maize breaking through the soil. What a day that always was!

But you and I are always wanting to do something for God. We are programmed that way, aren’t we? Instead of doing, we need to start being. Now, Mary and Martha are a very good example, remember Lazarus’s two sisters? They both loved Jesus very, very much but if you look at Luke 10:41-42:

“And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

Mary was sitting at the feet of Jesus and listening to His divine words while Martha was running to and fro trying to get things ready for the banquet. The Lord says no Martha, come and sit. I want to talk with you. You know, I just want to say to you in closing that the Lord does not need us. No, He is God. He can get anything He wants, but He wants us. He created us to have fellowship with Him.

Today, spend time with the Lord and He will speak with you and use you and bless you.

Have a wonderful day.
Jesus bless you and goodbye.
