Shield of Faith

And a very good morning to you! It is Sunday morning, the 10th of April, the year 2022. And this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“…above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.”

Ephesians 6:16

The shield of faith is what will hold off, quench and put to an end the fiery darts - the accusations of the devil. We must remember clearly here, that the devil cannot physically harm you. He is a liar, he is a thief and that is why he will attack you with his lies. That is why we need the shield of faith. Psalm 28:7 says:

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; (yes, that is right!)
My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped;
Therefore my heart greatly rejoices,
And with my song, I will praise Him.”

He cannot hurt you, he can only upset you if... you believe his lies. Remember, the Bible tells us after doing all of that, stand, don’t run. If you have your back on the devil you have no protection from the back. All the armour of God is to protect you from the front. Face your situation today and God will fight for you. Never, ever turn your back on your opponent.

Any successful boxer will tell you that as soon as you take your eyes off your opponent and you look away, you will lose the fight. It doesn’t matter how intense the fight is, keep your eyes on him and smile at him. It doesn’t matter how painful it is, just smile. I tell you what, you will undo him so quickly because he doesn’t know what else to do.

How do we overcome these lies, these fiery darts of the devil's? Well, there is only one way, the same way as Jesus defeated the devil in the desert. That’s right - He said, “It is written” - the power of the Bible. It is written, “Man shall not live by bread alone.” It is written, “Thou shalt not tempt the Lord your God.” - It is written.

Do you know, every single morning before Jill and I get out of bed, we put on the armour of God. The whole armour of God and then we face the day together. We start off with the helmet of salvation, and then we put on the breastplate of righteousness, then we put the belt of truth around our waist and we clad our feet with the Gospel of peace. We take up that same shield of faith and then we take up the sword of the Spirit, the word of God. Then we go out with the joy of our Lord, which is our strength.

Have a blessed day today.
Jesus bless you and Goodbye.
