Revenge

A very good morning to you! It is Sunday morning, the 24th of April, 2022. And this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

If we go straight to John 16:33, one of my favourite scriptures - Jesus says:

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

Jesus has overcome the things that are going wrong in this world. But we say, “But it doesn’t seem like it. It seems like evil is abounding. The poor are getting poorer and the rich are getting richer.” Then we go straight to Proverbs in the Old Testament:

“Do not fret because of evildoers,
Nor be envious of the wicked;
For there will be no prospect for the evil man;
The lamp of the wicked will be put out.”

Proverbs 24:19

Revenge - that word revenge. Some of us want revenge... Well, the Oxford Dictionary says revenge means retaliation for an injury or a wrong. We see corruption, we see abuse. We see people taking advantage of the poor and the defenceless. But the Lord has told us that this world will be filled with hardship and tribulation because the devil is going around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8.

Some of us are getting so bent out of shape that we are losing our joy, even our very own faith because we are seeing what is going on, which is so wrong, all over the world. Don’t do that! That is exactly what satan wants. Let’s understand one thing. We are on the winning side. Let the Lord Jesus Christ deal with all the corruption and the injustice.

You know, I remember like yesterday, there was a massive cup final, a rugby cup final, in South Africa. The one team was winning the match. There were only a couple of minutes to go and the referee blew the whistle and gave a penalty to the winning side. All they had to do was to kick the ball out and they would have won the match but the one player started to argue with the referee and what happened? The ref changed the decision, he reversed the decision to the losing side and one of their players stepped up and he kicked the ball right through the posts and they won the match by a couple of points. Now all that player had to do, on the winning side, was just kick the ball out and let the ref make the decision but no, he did not. He kept trying to take the law into his own hands and lost the match. The whole crowd went silent! I will never forget it as long as I live. I think that player had to be escorted from the field, the people were so angry.

Let God be the judge. He has told us that in Him we will have peace.
Have a wonderful Sunday. Jesus bless you and goodbye.
