Showing Kindness

A very good morning to you! It is Thursday morning, the 28th of April, the year 2022. And this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

If we go to the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 25, I am reading from verse 37:

“Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.” (Original Quote)

What powerful words! My wife and I visited a very quaint little coastal town in the Southern Cape. It was a lovely day and it was my turn to do the cooking, so I decided to go downtown to a fish and chip shop and buy some fish and chips... much easier than cooking! I walked into this little fish and chip shop and I placed my order. While I was standing, waiting for the ladies to make the fish and chips, I looked up on the wall and there in bold lettering was this beautiful inscription, printed on a large board, I want to read to you. It was written by William Penn, a quaker, who went from Britain to the United States of America and formed the State of Pennsylvania. He was a quaker and also wore a hat, just like I do.

And this is what he said:

“I expect to pass through life but once. If therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again.”

And I want to tell you that that sobered me up right away. I want to say to you today let’s take our eyes off the carnage and world politics, etc, taking place. We can’t do anything about that, can we? No, we can’t but you know something? We can pray, and we do. But let's go out today and be Jesus’ hands and Jesus’ feet to those who cannot help themselves. Do something today for someone who can’t pay you back.

Have a wonderful day today as you ponder on that beautiful saying written by William Penn.
Jesus bless you and goodbye.
