Vow

A very good morning to you - I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Thursday morning, the 18th of August 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“So I will sing praise to Your name forever, That I may daily perform my vows.”
Psalm 61:8

“Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.”
Job 13:15

What is a vow? Well, I looked up the Oxford Dictionary and the literal meaning of the word "vow" is a solemn promise. It is unconditional. You know, that's why God loved the farmer, Job, so very much, even when he lost everything - his farm, his animals, his home, and even his precious family, he could still say, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.”

We, of course, know what happened in the end because Job kept his vow. If we look at Job 42:12:

“Now the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; for he had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and one thousand female donkeys. He also had seven sons and three daughters.”

And those daughters were the most beautiful in the land.
Verse 16 says.

“After this Job lived one hundred and forty years, and saw his children and grandchildren for four generations. So Job died, old and full of days.”

Keep your vow to God because he will always keep His promise to us.
Many years ago, we were caught in a severe drought, yes, another one. The crop was dying in front of our very eyes! Every morning I'd get up and see that it was shrivelling. It was looking like onions and this was a crop of seed maize. The bank overdraft was red-lining. I could actually see the farm slipping through my very fingers, just like sea sand. One day in sheer desperation, I made a solemn vow to Jesus. I said, “Lord, if You pull me through this drought, I will preach Your Holy Word till the day I die.” Yes, He pulled me through the drought and yes, I'm still preaching the Gospel.

Have a wonderful day.
Jesus bless you and goodbye.
