Keep In Touch

A very good morning to you - I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Friday morning, the 19th of August 2022, and this is your friend Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“Greet one another with a holy kiss. The churches of Christ greet you.”
Romans 16:16

We need to keep in touch with one another. We are living in perilous days in which we are constantly being isolated from each other. We need to keep in touch as Paul did. If you look at the whole of Romans Chapter 16, you'll see he sends greetings to the different churches and different people. The whole New Testament, all those letters, are keeping in touch with the people that loved the Lord, all over the known world in those days.

The Coronavirus has done terrible damage to the world - it has isolated us from one another. Remember the masks? We had to wear masks all the time. My wife would go to the shops to buy some groceries and there would be a loudspeaker on, “Buy your groceries and go straight home”. There were no meetings allowed, no socialising at all and as little contact as possible with each other. But we, as Christians, need to keep in touch with one another. No man is an island. There are no lone rangers in the kingdom of God. We need to speak to each other. Make that phone call, send that text message, God created us to be together. He means for us to be together as a family. We need to wave at that passing motorcar, give them a big smile and shout out that Jesus loves them. Visitation is so important in the kingdom of God.

DL Moody, the amazing American dynamic evangelist that lived in the 1800s, was incredible! He built a massive church in Chicago, but he would personally visit his massive congregation. He would come running up the steps of those high-rise flats, those tenement buildings, and before he got to the door, he would start shouting, “Are you okay?” and then they'd open the door. “Have you got enough food to eat? Do you have enough coal for the winter?” He would pray for them in the house and then be on to the next family. He visited hundreds of families in a single day.

I want to say to you today that we need to keep in touch with one another. I was asked to go and visit a dear old lady on her 90th birthday and she didn't even know I was coming. I went in there, gave her a little book and wished her a happy birthday. Her dear face just lit up! Then I said, “Can we pray together?” We prayed the sinner’s prayer together in that room. She was so happy and her daughter contacted me later and said, “My mom's whole day was made.” It took me five minutes. That's all.

But of course, the most important thing is to keep in touch with Jesus. Jesus says in Matthew 11:28-30:

“Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Have a wonderful day.
Jesus bless you and keep in touch.
