The Weatherman

“But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”

Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”
— Mark 4:38-39

Why are we so fearful?

There can only be one reason for that and that is that we do not know Him well enough. The disciples themselves said to each other: “Who can this be that even the wind and the sea obey Him?” What is it that we are afraid of in our lives today? What storm is rocking our boat?

Cast your cares upon Jesus because He cares for you.
1 Peter 5:7

You know that farmer, Job... They say that Job is the oldest book in the whole Bible... I love him so much, probably because I can identify with him. He literally lost everything in his life. Everything went wrong and yet he could still say with great boldness: “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.” Job 13:15. Even his wife said to him: “Why don’t you just curse God and die?” Job 2:9 That is the kind of faith that Jesus is looking for in you and me today. Do your best and then leave the rest to Him.

“For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”
Philippians 1:21

You can’t frighten a Christian with Heaven!

I remember standing on the platform at Kings Park Rugby Stadium in Durban and they had forecast a terrible drought - El Nino was coming. I got up there, I was so full of the love of Christ that day, and I said: “To hell with El Nino! We are going back to the farm and we are going to plant potatoes.” I made that statement and then of course with my big mouth, I had to follow through.

The rural farmers were asked to plant their crops because it wasn’t going to rain. We planted those potatoes and we even leased some of the neighbour’s fields and planted them up with maize as well - God gave us potatoes and maize that year.

Take your eyes off the storm today and put your eyes on the Weatherman - His name is Jesus!

God bless you.
