A Still, Small Voice

Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.
— 1 Kings 19:11-12

Then we go to Psalms, The Lord says:

“Be still, and know that I am God”
Psalm 36:10

The Lord was not found in the strong wind, He was not found in the earthquake and He was not found in the fire but rather in a still, small voice. You never know who you are talking to - It might even be an angel.

That little old lady that you don’t listen to, too often - she might have a message for you from the Lord. That young boy who loves Jesus very much might just have the scripture you need to make that massive decision. That old man who sits on the bench who has all those wrinkles, those war maps on his face, might just have the message you need to hear today.

“Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.” Hebrews 13:2

That’s right! I want to say to you today, that I remember very clearly, that I took my young son to university to try to get him admitted for a degree in agriculture. There were a lot of people standing around and eventually the secretary of the professor asked us to come in and sit down. My son is very well-mannered, he is a humble boy and he is very respectful of elders. He sat down and the lady started to ask him questions.

“Why do you want to study agriculture?”
“Do you think that you will be able to pass? Your marks are not too good you know.”
And “Do you realize that you only have one chance?”

“Yes Madam, I do. I want to study agriculture because I come from a farming family.”
And she carried on questioning him and when the interview was over she said, “ Now I will let the professor know and we will give you an answer in the next week or so.” And he said, “Thank you very much", he shook her hand respectfully and out we walked together. When we walked down the path of the university campus, I put my arm around his shoulder and shook his hand and said, “Well done Andy. You have been accepted.” He looked at me quite surprised and said, “What do you mean, dad?” I said, “My boy, the professor doesn’t have time to interview 200 students. That lady is the one who is going to make the decision.” And what happened - A couple of days later he got a letter in the post to say he had been accepted.

Today, listen to the small, still voice.
God bless you and goodbye.
