Lying

A very good morning to you - I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Tuesday morning, the 25th of October 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today!

“God is not a man, that He should lie,
Nor a son of man, that He should repent.
Has He said, and will He not do?
Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?”
Numbers 23:19

Isn’t that beautiful? One thing about the Lord, He is not a liar. He is not a deceiver - what He says He will do, He will do.

“Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds,…”
Colossians 3:9

Christians cannot lie because it is not in the nature of God to lie. Jesus has never once lied to me, my dear friend. Everything He has promised me, He has done. You and I must also display the same fruit. We must let our “yes” be yes and our “no” be no. Now listen to this beautiful quotation,

“Faith is believing God will not lie.”

That is why we believe. When we tell someone a lie we break their trust in us and that is why unfaithfulness in marriage or friendship is so devastating.

Who is the greatest liar of all? The devil himself. He is known as the father of lies. He is known as the deceiver of the brethren - you and I. Today, we need to ask the Holy Spirit to give us the courage to admit our mistakes and not try and cover them up by telling lies because your lies will always find you out. So today if there is something you have done, rather ask the Lord to give you the strength and go and say sorry.

My late dad came out to South Africa in his early twenties to make a life for himself. Before he left Bonnie Scotland, he fell in love with my mother and he promised her that he would come back, marry her and bring her out to the home that he was going create for them, but the Second World War broke out, and for six years, my dad would not get back to Scotland. For six years my mother waited for him because she knew he would not lie. My dad was in a prisoner of war camp and after the liberation he went back to Bonnie Scotland, the country of his origin, married my mother within two weeks, and they came back to South Africa together.

That is one of the things I loved about my dad. Whatever he said he would do, he would do. Now, you and I today need to be exactly the same. Let us be honourable and not tell lies.

Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day.
Goodbye.
