Number Our Days

A very good morning to you - It is Monday morning, the 24th of October 2022. I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! This is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

Let's go to that beautiful Psalm that was written by Moses himself - the prayer of Moses - Psalm 90:12:

“So teach us to number our days,
That we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’?
John 4:35

We need to be so careful that we do not waste time. Time is of the essence, it is very precious. Moses says to the Lord,

“Please teach us, Lord Jesus, so that we may number our days and gain a heart of wisdom.”

There is no time left to waste on trivial and wasteful living. We need to ask the Lord to establish the work of our hands. If you look at verse 17 of the same Psalm, twice Moses says,

“Establish the work of our hands for us.”
Psalm 90:17

Establish the work of our hands. Often a young man will say, “I just want to sow my wild oats first, I want to have a bit of fun and then I will get serious for the Lord.” Please don’t do that because that will leave a scar on your heart. Yes, when we repent, genuinely repent - and I am one of them, God forgives us for our sins, but you know, the scar remains. When you do something wasteful, when you have a relationship that you are not serious about and you cause a problem, you ask forgiveness, you move on but the scar remains and we need to be very, very careful about the way we are living.

Jesus forgives us for our sins. There is no doubt about it, but we do not have time to reinvent the wheel as they say. We need to get it right the first time because our days are numbered and we need to use each one carefully. As I am getting older I am sure there are a lot of older people listening to this message today that can say “Amen” with me.

There are many things that if I had to live my life again, I never would have done, but they are behind me, God has forgiven me. It has cost me but now I am pressing on. I am pressing on and preparing myself for glory because the life to come is just around the corner. In the meantime, let us work hard, let us do what we can for Jesus and our fellowman, and let us appreciate every minute that God has given us.

Jesus bless you and have a wonderful Monday,
Goodbye.
