Meditate

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Saturday morning, it is the 13th of May, 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

May my meditation be sweet to Him; I will be glad in the Lord.”
Psalm 104:34

“Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all.”
1 Timothy 4:15

Are you spending time in meditation? You might ask me, what is meditation? Well, according to the Oxford Dictionary, to meditate means, “to contemplate, to think, to ponder, to reflect, to consider, to focus your mind and free it from uncontrolled thoughts.” In other words, to relax, to take time out - it is not an Eastern thing, its what happened in the Bible. Jesus meditated often, taking time out to smell the roses. That is what my old neighbour used to say to me when we used to meet across the fence, “Angus, take time out to smell the roses.”

Jesus told His disciples to do it in Mark 6:31. He said, “Come aside and rest awhile”, because he could see that they didn’t even have time to eat, they were so busy ministering to the people. Do you remember that story? I believe it's a true account of Sir Francis Drake, the British sea captain, who was playing a game of bowls at Plymouth. He was relaxing and then all of a sudden he was told that the whole Spanish Armada was on the sea and was approaching England, and he reputedly said, “There is plenty of time to win this game and to thrash the Spaniards too!”

Oh folks, he obviously knew how to meditate! He knew how to relax. I want to say to you today, we really need to take time out. I am probably speaking to myself today more than to any of you but the Lord requires us to spend time in His presence, to spend time meditating on His things, and that is what brings you peace. It brings you purpose, gives you focus, stops you from running around like a chicken with its head cut off and helps you to do things in a godly manner.

Today, take time out to spend with Jesus and smell the roses.

Have a wonderful day,
God bless you and goodbye.
