No Imitation

A very good morning to you, I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Wednesday morning, the 10th of May, 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You.
My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
Psalm 73:25-26

Isn’t that beautiful? Then we go straight across to Philippians 3:8:

“Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ.”

Remember the story of the man who sold everything that he had to buy a pearl of great price? (Matthew 13:46). Once you have found the real thing, all else is mere plastic and imitation. There is just too much evidence to doubt that Jesus Christ is real. There is no imitation about Him. There is no plastic about Him. He is all we need.

I have a little granddaughter. She is five years old and is absolutely mad about horses - probably takes after her dad, her mom, and her grandad as well. Her name is Rebecca, and when you see Rebecca, all you see are plastic horses, rocking horses, pictures of horses, and as many imitation horses as you can find. One day, her granny and I decided we were going to buy her a miniature horse. You know, we bought that horse for Rebecca and her dad told me the other day that she is a completely transformed child. She is not interested in her plastic horses, her rocking horses, watching horses on television - not interested, she is never inside! Where is she? She is spending time with her little miniature horse and she has called him, “Cracker Jack”. That's his name. She loves him, she brushes him, and she spends time with him all day long.

I want to tell you that when you have found the pearl of great price, when you have found Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, your life will never, ever be the same again. Solomon said looking after material things, chasing after them is like chasing the wind, it's all vanity because it doesn’t last. We need to start spending more time with Jesus Christ and with godly treasures, like spending ourselves on people on the Gospel, spending time with widows and orphans, and investing in eternal things.

Jesus bless you today as you continue to treasure that pearl of great price.

God bless you and goodbye.
