Not About Tradition
I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Friday morning, it is the 6th of January 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.
“…for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 14:17
This life of ours is not all about tradition. It's not about what we eat and what we don’t eat. It's not about what we wear and we don’t wear, it is about righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water. How many times have we heard that? For the sake of tradition, don’t send a person to hell. You ask me, “Who are you talking about, Angus?”. Well, Paul is talking about judging people. When a person is a vegan or a vegetarian, that does not mean that he is not a Christian or because he only eats meat, that he is not a child of God. Peter had a vision of a sheet being let down from Heaven with all kinds of four-footed animals, wild beasts and creepy things, and the Lord said to him, “Arise and kill and eat.” Now Peter was a very staunch Jew and there were certain foods that he would not eat, but if we look at Acts 10:15:
“And a voice spoke to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed you must not call common.”
Eat your food with genuine relish for it may very well save a life. Now, some men go with me when I travel all over preaching, and sometimes we go to a home where we are not familiar with how they prepare their food, we are not familiar with the way they eat their food. Some people eat their food with their hands and by the way, I love eating food with my hands. I find it so tasty. But it is not about that, is it? No.
If we carry on and read the scriptures we will see that after Peter awoke from the vision there was a knock on the door and Cornelius, who was a Roman, a gentile, had sent men to call Peter to his home. Peter realised what God was saying. God called a Jew into a gentile’s house. That was not allowed by tradition but Cornelius was a man of God and Peter went to be with him and salvation came to their home. Do not become so traditional in your ways that you keep a man out of the Kingdom of God.
Have a wonderful day,
Jesus bless you and goodbye.
