Don't Envy Others

I greet you in Jesus' precious Name. It is Sunday morning, the 9th of July 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a Thought for Today. We start off in Psalm 37:1-2.

Do not fret because of evildoers,
Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity.
For they shall soon be cut down like the grass,
And wither as the green herb.

Then we go to the New Testament to the Gospel of Luke 9:54-56.

And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?”
But He turned and rebuked them, and said, “You do not know what manner of spirit you are of. For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them.” And they went to another village.

The disciples wanted to destroy those people in Samaria because they turned their back on the Lord. You and I are not to take the law into our own hands and we are not to envy sinners. It appears so often, doesn't it, that the unrighteous seem to do so well and even prosper, but it is not true. I want you older people to cast your mind back a bit and you younger people just to listen up. There's a song that was written by Peter Sarstedt many years ago, it's called: "Where do you go to my lovely". And these are some of the lyrics.

But where do you go to, my lovely
When you're alone in your bed?
Won't you tell me the thoughts that surround you?
I want to look inside your head, yes, I do

Your name it is heard in high places
You know the Aga Khan
He sent you a race horse for Christmas
And you keep it just for fun, for a laugh, ha-ha-ha

They say that when you get married
It'll be to a millionaire
But they don't realize where you came from
And I wonder if they really care, or give a damn

I remember the back streets of Naples
Two children begging in rags
Both touched with a burning ambition
To shake off their lowly-born tags, they tried

So look into my face, Marie-Claire
And remember just who you are
Then go and forget me forever
But I know you still bear the scar, deep inside, yes, you do

And the song goes on... I want to say to you, there are people that you envy and you wish you could be like, but you don't know what they go through because of what it has taken for them to get supposed world success. Rather keep your eyes on Jesus, walk humbly before Him and He will see you right through to the end.

Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day. Goodbye.
