Our Lifestyle

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Thursday morning, the 4th of May, 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.”
Ephesians 5:22

“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,…”
Ephesians 5:25

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.”
Ephesians 6:1

The most effective way of preaching the Gospel is not necessarily from the pulpit or the platform. It's our lifestyle. Just the other day at a men’s prayer meeting, we were speaking about the Christian lifestyle. It's not so much what you say, is it, that impacts people? But it's more how you live that speaks to them. It's pulling out that chair for your wife at the restaurant, and you do it, not to impress anybody, it's because you love your wife and you protect her. It's taking the tab for the price of the meal, not going half and half. No, if you are the man of the house, you pay. If you are taking out that girl, young man, and you want to impress her then you pay for the meal or you don’t take her out for the meal. It's not a case of you paying your share - I have never heard of that before, and I want to say to the young ladies, if a man does that to you, don’t go out with him again because he is not worth it. If he respects you and loves you, he will gladly pay for everything. It is like giving up your seat on a bus for an old lady that is standing there. “Please sit down.” It impacts people. It is a powerful sermon. Helping that old man across the street because he is very unsteady on his feet - it's not what you say, it is who you are that impacts people more than anything else.

A couple of years ago, I was sitting in the car, waiting for Jill, she was shopping (by the way, I don’t like shopping at all, I just want you to know that…I want to say to all the ladies, enjoy your shopping while you can because I don’t think there will be shopping in Heaven, that is just my personal opinion), but seriously, I was sitting in the car waiting for my wife, she came out with the shopping trolley with all our groceries in it, and automatically, not even thinking, I jumped out the car, went around to the passenger side and opened the door for her and seated her in the car and unpacked the shopping.

I was about to get into the driver’s side when a young man came from the other side of the street. He said, “Sir, I have been watching you and I have just seen what you have done.” So I said, “Well, what did I do, young man?” He said, “The way in which you treated your wife.” He said, “Sir, I am a teacher at a large boys' high school, would you please come and speak to my students?” Well, I was quite amazed. Just because I opened the door for my wife to get into the car, he wanted me to preach to a large high school.

Today, remember, it's not what you say, it's what you do that makes more impact for the Kingdom of God, than anything else.

Jesus bless you and have a lovely day,
Goodbye.
