The Way
A very good morning to you, I greet you in Jesus' precious Name. It is Monday morning, the 3rd of July 2023, and this is your friend Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to Proverbs 22:6:
"Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it."
Then we go straight to the New Testament to 2 Timothy 3:15:
"...and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus."
You know it's tough to teach an old dog new tricks. The best time to teach him is when he's a little puppy. As a very small boy, I was always taught to mount a horse from the left-hand side - by the way, you can mount a horse from any side. It makes no difference to the horse, but I would never dream of mounting a horse from the right-hand side because I was taught, as a young boy, to get on the left-hand side.
When we sit down as a family to eat a meal, instinctively, automatically, without even thinking about it, we thank Jesus for the food we are about to eat. I love hearing my little grandchildren saying Grace; they aren't even shy because their parents have taught them to say Grace before they eat their food. Who taught their parents? Exactly, we taught them when they were young. Many is the time when, in a restaurant, we give thanks to the Lord for our food - not showing off or trying to make a big issue about it. We do it automatically before we eat. Often, afterwards, people from the other side of the restaurant walked over to us and said they were watching us while we were eating our food, and they saw us give thanks to God before we started eating, which touched their hearts deeply.
I want to say to young parents today, continue to train your children up in the ways of the Lord, and when they grow older, they will also teach those ways to their children.
Jesus bless you, and have a wonderful day goodbye
