All We Need

A very good morning to you! It is Wednesday morning, 29 June 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

If we go to the Old Testament to Deuteronomy 6:5:

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.”

And then we go straight to John 21:15:

“So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?”

The greatest and first commandment, “Thy shalt love the Lord, thy God.” You know, I wrote a book many years ago titled: “Is Jesus Enough?” I want to say to you today that we need to have a good look at our hearts and ask ourselves that question.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these (other) things shall be added to you.”

Matthew 6:33

It is not fair to put our trust and hope in our wives or husbands because they are mere mortals, just like you and I. We have to put our hope and our expectations in God, not on our loved ones because it is totally unfair.

“My soul, wait silently for God alone,
For my expectation is from Him.”

Psalm 62:5

When we put our total trust in the Lord, we can love one another freely without any strings attached, without putting pressure on them and that gives us total freedom and strength, not to try and possess one another because our loved ones actually belong to God anyway.

I remember a few years back I was invited to speak at a conference to a large group of pastors, evangelists and teachers. I asked them a question, “How much do you love Jesus?” Of course they all responded very positively: “With all that we have.” And then I asked them another question. I said, “If God told you that He never wanted you to preach another sermon in your life, would you still love Him the same?” I must be honest with you, the whole assembly went very quiet.

We need to ask ourselves a question today - Is Jesus all we need?

Have a wonderful day.
God bless you and goodbye.
