Small Beginnings

I greet you in Jesus' precious Name. It is Saturday morning, the 25th of February, 2023 and this is your friend, Angus Buchan with a Thought For Today.

If we go straight to the Gospel of John 1:42

"And he brought him to Jesus".

Who brought him to Jesus? Andrew did. The introducer, that's now his name, one of the disciples, introduced his brother Peter, the big fisherman, to the master. Yet you never ever hear much about Andrew, do you? You don't hear about any sermons that he preached, you don't hear much about any miracles he performed. But he was the introducer. What about John the Baptist? The Lord Jesus said there's never been a man that's born from the womb of a woman more famous than John the Baptist and yet how many sermons did he preach? Not one.

"Behold! The Lamb of God."
John 1:29

Yes, John the Baptist introduced Jesus to the world and yet you don't hear too many sermons preached by John the Baptist. Folks, what am I talking about? I'm talking about nobodies. Maybe this morning you're feeling a bit down and you say: "What contribution am I making to the kingdom of God?" You just keep being yourself. You'll be surprised how many people you are influencing and you don't even know it. Have you ever heard of a man by the name of Mordecai Ham? That's a mouthful. Mordecai Ham was a country evangelist. He was a young man, a dairy farmer's son. All he wanted to be was a professional baseball player and I think it was on a Wednesday night, at the midweek meeting, Mordecai Ham was preaching and he introduced Billy Graham to Jesus Christ. Now, who knows about Mordecai Ham? Everybody knows about Billy Graham. Folks, I want to say to you today, don't despise small beginnings. You don't even know how important your position is.

What about that Scottish doctor and missionary? I'm talking about none other than David Livingstone. I don't know of any sermons he preached. He only led one man to Christ, that I know of, he was the chief from Botswana, and yet do you know a more famous missionary that came to Africa than David Livingstone? Now he was instrumental in helping to abolish the horrific slave trade, he named the Victoria Falls after Queen Victoria. Don't despise small beginnings. God uses nobodies to do His work. Go out today and be somebody for Jesus Christ.
