Speak Life

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Monday morning, the 10th of April, 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, but he who restrains his lips is wise.”
Proverbs 10:19

“Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.”
James 3:10

The tongue is a very powerful part of the human body. It has the ability to pronounce life or death over someone or something. We need to be so careful how we talk. Do you know that that little tongue can make or destroy a marriage or a friendship in an instant? World wars have been started and millions of people killed by one word spoken in anger and out of context.

We live in an area where there are many beautiful forests, yet I have seen with my own eyes a whole forest burnt to cinders in a moment by one match that has been struck by mistake or carelessness. The unruly tongue can do exactly the same thing. We need to count to ten before we say hurtful or controversial words and we probably will never say them. Remember, if you have got nothing good to say about a person, rather say nothing at all. Mom, please watch how you talk to your little children. I know sometimes they can push you to the very edge but be careful how you talk. When you say, “You little devils,” you are pronouncing a curse on them. Don’t say that! Dads, tell your wife that you love her. “She knows that I love her, Angus.” No, but she wants to hear it every single day. When I wake up in the morning, I turn over and I say to Jill, “Jill, I love you,” and I really mean it - every single morning. We have been married now for just on fifty years.

The power of the spoken word is vital. We need to speak life and not death over people. Jesus always spoke life. When He walked into a house the first thing He would say is, “Shalom” which is the Hebrew word for “peace” as He walked into that house. He spoke life. He never spoke death. Why don’t you tell Jesus today that you love Him?

Have a wonderful day,
God bless you and goodbye.
