Spiritual Fitness

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Friday morning, the 19th of May, 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 14:17

“For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.”
Timothy 4:8

“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?”
Mark 8:36

Now folks, no one likes exercising as much as I do. I try to ride my mountain bike every morning, I ride my horse, Snowy, as often as I can. I love splitting wood for our wood stove, for my wife, Jill, for the winter. I just love splitting wood. It takes a lot of discipline to keep fit, especially when you get older. We have got to eat properly and we have got to keep in shape physically, there is no doubt about it, but the Apostle, Paul, tells young Timothy, not to neglect his spiritual training and his spiritual fitness. That is actually more important, in fact, it is vital if we are going to finish this race, strong.

You know, the body grows old but the spirit never grows old in a person, in fact, the spirit never, ever dies. We need to train our spirit man. We need to get up in the morning, we need to have a regular quiet time, every single day, with the Lord Jesus. They said to Martin Luther, “What do you do in the morning when you are very busy?” He said, “I get up earlier.” We have got to train our spiritual man, systematically read our Bible every day, and pray faithfully every day. Pray for your loved ones, pray and speak to Jesus. Prepare your mind and spirit for the day ahead. Put on the full armour of God. You know about that - the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, the belt of truth around the waist, clad your feet with the shoes of the Gospel of peace, take up the shield of faith to ward off those fiery darts of the evil one, and the sword of The Spirit, the word of God and then the devil will never defeat you.

So keep training physically but more importantly, spiritually.
Jesus bless you and goodbye.
