Drink Deeply

And a very good morning to you! It is Thursday morning, the 3rd of February 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“…but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”

John 4:14

Have you ever been thirsty, I mean really thirsty? All you want is clear, pure, cool water to drink. Not tea, not coffee or a coke, no - just water!

But of course, Jesus is not speaking here of physical water. He is speaking about spiritual water.

“…he who believes in Me shall never thirst.”

John 6:35

Just like a human being cannot live without water so too, the person who does not drink from the fountain of life, Jesus Christ, will also die - spiritually.

Many years ago, I attempted to run the mighty Comrades Marathon. I was 58 years old at the time. I had done my preparation. I did my qualifier of 42 kilometres, I did a slow 68 kilometre with my daughters seconding me and I did many 21 kilometres and I thought that I was ready. But you know what happened? I did not drink. All I wanted to do was to finish that gruelling 90-odd kilometre race. Fourteen kilometres to go before the end and what happened? The tarmac, the road, started moving! That's absolute truth and I didn’t know anything else.

One old intercessor, Aunty Moira, says she thinks that Jesus turned out the lights because she knew I wouldn’t have stopped and I would have died in the process. I woke up in an ambulance with a drip in my arm. I was totally and completely dehydrated.

If we don’t drink from God’s Holy word every day and if we don’t pray every day, we will not make it.
