Telling People About Jesus

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is a beautiful morning, Tuesday the 4th of October 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven,…”
Matthew 7:21

'Make haste and get out of Jerusalem quickly, for they will not receive your testimony concerning Me.'
Acts 22:22

It can be very disheartening to tell someone about your new-found faith, only to have the door slammed shut in your face. That happened to one of the greatest preachers of all time - Paul, the Apostle. When the Lord Jesus spoke to him and said, “Get out of Jerusalem because they will not receive your testimony”, then we must understand something - telling people about Jesus Christ is not for the faint-hearted, its not for the fearful and not for sissies!

We need to understand that no one can persuade a person to become a Christian. It is a sovereign work of the Holy Spirit alone, and of course, that takes tremendous pressure off us. So what can we do? I can hear some people saying, “My family needs to hear about Christ. What can we do about it? They won’t listen to me. I have tried to speak to them.” The first thing you can do is to continue to pray because the effective fervent prayer of a righteous man or woman avails much (James 5:16). Then, we can love them, just love them but do not compromise your stand for Jesus Christ, not for anyone.

In Luke 18:18 we hear the account of a certain ruler who came to Jesus and asked Him a question, “What shall I do in order to inherit eternal life?”. Jesus told him what to do but he did not receive it. He walked away. I remember a minister telling me years ago, Jesus did not run after him and say, “Let's talk about this.” He stood there and the tears must have been running down His face as that ruler was on his way to a lost eternity. We have a responsibility and that is to tell people about the Lord but we cannot do anything more than that.

As a new believer, I was so excited to have met Jesus. My next-door neighbour and I were going to buy some cattle at a stock sale. I had been in the pub with him on Saturday night and on Sunday morning, I met Jesus. As we were driving down the road, I said to him, “You won’t believe what happened yesterday, I gave my life to Christ.” His face went grey and he said, “Oh, I am very pleased for you.” I said, “What about you?” he said, “No, it is not for me.” Two years afterwards, that young man phoned me and said, “I need to talk to you. I need Jesus in my life", and I had the privilege of leading him to Christ.

Do not stop. Just keep on!

God bless you and have a wonderful day.
Goodbye.
