The Holy Spirit

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Wednesday morning, the 29th of March, 2023 and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the Lord of hosts.”
Zechariah 4:6

“…greater is He who is in you than He who is in the world.”
1 John 4:4

You know sometimes we neglect the Third Person of the Holy Trinity. We have Our Heavenly Father - oh, I love Him so much. We have His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, the soon-coming King - oh, what a King we serve! Then we have the Holy Spirit. He is equally important. He is not a figment of our imagination. No, He is very real and has a character and a personality, and He is so sweet and so beautiful! We often forget Him, so often neglect Him, we don’t consult Him. We don’t even spend time talking to Him. How do you get to know somebody? By spending time with them.

He is our Comforter, He is our Advisor, He is our Defender, oh yes! He is our Protector. Why do we run to everybody else and not to the Holy Spirit for our needs and our counsel? You know in 1 Kings 19:11, we hear about Elijah in the cave, waiting to hear from God. What happened? First of all, a mighty wind came past, broke the rocks and the mountains, then an earthquake came and shook the earth and then fire came down from Heaven, but the Lord was not in any of them, and then a still small voice came. That is right, the Holy Spirit. A good idea is not always a God idea. We need to hear from our Lord, Holy Spirit.

Often when I am preaching, I will just about get up to go onto the platform or into the pulpit and I hear that still, small voice, crystal clear. In all the noise, all the excitement, all the praise and worship, The Lord says, “Angus, don’t share that word, I want you to share this word.” And I am saying, “But Lord, I have prepared the message.” “Don’t do that.” And I change my message, I don’t do it often, I can tell you, and I do it in an instant and that is the time when the power of God comes down on the people because it is God’s word.

Today, listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit. He will direct you, He will comfort you and He will strengthen you. He is a Friend indeed. Jesus said, “I am going so that I can send you a Comforter, a Helper, Parakletos. (John 16:7). Have a wonderful day as you walk with your Friend.

In Jesus’ name,
Goodbye.
