The Road To Heaven

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Saturday morning, the 17th of June, 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

We start in the Book of Psalms and to one of my favourite scriptures:

“Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all.”
Psalm 34:19

Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.”
2 Timothy 3:12

This road to Heaven is not an easy road for us to walk on. No, the devil will try everything in his power to try and make you take the shortcut. He will try and persuade you not to walk in the ways of God. He will tell you to not work so hard, not to be so honest and definitely not to follow the way of Christ. Horatius Bonar was a Scottish hymn writer in the 1800s. He wrote many famous hymns, he said, and I quote: “God may not give us an easy journey to the Promised Land but He will give us a safe one.

I want to say to a young lady who is listening to this very message this morning, you are heartbroken because the man that you thought that you loved would not wait until your wedding night in order for you to sleep with him. You refused and what has he done? He has left you. Now, you are heartbroken. I want to tell you that man never loved you. No, he was using you and because you have taken the straight road which leads to eternal life, God is going to bring the right man into your life. You don’t believe it at the moment. You will see it! He will bring you a godly, upright man who will wait until your wedding night.

I want to say to a young man who has maybe just lost his job because you refused to bend the rules because it is dishonest, and they have gotten rid of you now. You feel totally deserted. No, because you have done it God’s way, He will give you a better job. You will see. In years to come, you will look back and say, “I am so grateful that I did not start to bend the rules because those very men are now sitting in jail because of fraud or theft.” We need to stand up for the truth. Now, often when we stand up for the truth - maybe, I am talking to a student at school and you become the laughing stock of the class - don’t worry if you are unpopular. The most important thing is that these people respect you. They don’t have to like you but they must respect you.

Do you remember that old evangelist, that gypsy by the name of Rodney Smith? He used to tell the people, “It takes a live fish to swim against the current and it takes a dead one to go with the flow.” Don’t go with the flow. It will not take you home to Heaven. Do it Jesus’ way!

Have a wonderful day,
God bless you and goodbye.
