The Window Of Our Hearts

I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Tuesday morning, the 25th of July, 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

We start in Proverbs 27:19:

"As in water face reflects face, So a man's heart reveals the man."

Another translation says: "Just as water mirrors your face, so your face mirrors your heart."

When preaching, I always like to look into the eyes of the people because the eyes are the window of our hearts, it mirrors the heart of the crowd. Before I even start preaching, I can work out what kind of crowd I am talking to. I would be a very useless card player because I cannot hide the hand of cards I am holding. My face tells the whole story, whether I am happy or sad. I am one of those guys that wears my heart on my sleeve, and it often gets me into trouble, but at least you know where you stand when you are talking to me.

Many years ago, I was about to speak to a group of farmers in the Eastern Cape. One old gentleman came up to me and said, "Boy, when you speak today, preach to us so that we can see your heart." That is so true. If it's not inside, it's not coming out. I want to ask you a question - can you imagine looking into the face of Jesus one day? Because all of us will. The Bible says every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that He is Lord. Can you imagine those beautiful, gentle eyes that will look straight through you? We won't be able to hide anything. Remember when Jesus spoke to the Samaritan woman at the well? If you look at John 4:19, after He had told her her whole life's story, she said,

"Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet."

Today, when you speak to somebody, look at them in their eyes, and they will tell you a whole story. When you look at them, let them see eyes of love, forgiveness, compassion, and gentleness - because what's in your heart will come out when they look at your eyes.

Spend lots of time with Jesus, ask the Lord to give you a soft heart, and then you will have gentle eyes.

Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,
Goodbye.
