Unity

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Thursday morning, the 2nd of February, 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
For brethren to dwell together in unity!
It is like the precious oil upon the head,
Running down on the beard,
The beard of Aaron,
Running down on the edge of his garments.
It is like the dew of Hermon,
Descending upon the mountains of Zion;
For there the Lord commanded the blessing—
Life forevermore.”
Psalm 133:1-3

I have just come back from a very intimate prayer meeting with a group of men and the leader of the group started by saying, “Lord, we need unity in the Body of Christ.” How true is that? The Lord tells us very clearly in Psalm 133 that He commands a blessing when there is unity. I just love to travel around the world and meet different people. I have the privilege of staying in their homes very often, and as I walk in through the front door, I can sense if there is unity in the family. When mom and dad are pulling together, when the children are happy and disciplined, they are listening to instructions from their parents, and there is love and unity which is so special. It's like a well-oiled machine. It's like a rugby team that pulls together. You know, often you get a team full of superstars. They don’t win much because every man is on his own mission and everyone is trying to prove their point, but when you get men pulling together, and women, boys and girls, you see unity demonstrated and that is always a winning team.

I want to say to you today, don’t be shy to say sorry. I can hear some man saying, “But it is not my fault.” That is not the point. The point is it takes two to tango on the dance floor, it takes two to have an argument. If you say, “Listen, I am sorry for my part in it”, it breaks that tension and there is reconciliation. That's what Jesus did. Jesus went to the Cross, not because He was guilty, not because He deserved to die, He went there to die to pay for your sins and my sins. Now, we need to do likewise.

We need to put our selfish pride in our pockets, we need to strive for unity in the home, in the workplace and the nation. Remember, charity starts at home and no man living in a glass house throws stones. We need to work together. Let's pray for unity in the home today.

Jesus bless you and goodbye.
