Fathers
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Friday morning, it is the 3rd of February, 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.
“For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the Gospel.”
1 Corinthians 4:15
Not many fathers in the faith - the problem in the world today in a fatherless generation. You know, I just want to clarify, right at the beginning, we thank God for our moms, for our women-folk, for the homemakers, for the single moms. We really do. What would we do without you actually? But we desperately need dads in the home. Many men in the home are not taking their role as a father figure in the home. They are abdicating. We need to stand up gentlemen, and we need to take our position as prophet, priest and king in the home.
The disciples asked the Lord Jesus to teach them how to pray, and in Matthew 6:9 He said, when you pray, pray like this:
“Our Father who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.”
Fathers have a role to play in the home, and they have a role to play in society. Unfortunately, fathers at the moment are taking a terrible beating when it comes to society. Some young fathers don’t know how to be a father anymore because they are getting so broken down. I want to say to you, gentlemen, stand up and be counted. We need you desperately. A dad must lead from the front. He must love his wife, he must love his children so that he brings order to the home. Have you ever seen that big male African lion in the bush? Have you seen him? He is in charge of the pride. He doesn’t mix with all the females. He will sit a little bit aside, maybe under a tree and he will watch them and the young cubs playing with their mothers, but he is looking after the pride. He is protecting the pride from predators. He has a role to play in his pride.
You and I have a role to play in society. We need to be a father of the fatherless. I want to tell you with honour and great pride that I am mentoring approximately 500 men, right around the world. What do I do? I am just there for them they need to ask me, and I pray for them every day. I write them a letter every month and I meet with them every year. That is all I can do. We need fathers. Fathers, you need to take your position in the home and in the nation.
I want to tell you a little story. My wife came home the other day and she said she went to a swimming gala and my grandson was swimming. His dad was standing on the side of the pool and the young boy was coming first, but then all of a sudden another swimmer was going to overtake him. Then the big bellowing voice of the father said, “Step it up, boy!” And with that, he won the race.
Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day.
Goodbye.
