Revive Your Soul

And a very good morning to you! It is Wednesday morning, 16th March, the year 2022. And this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

I want to speak to you today about reviving your soul. We need to revive our souls... If we look at the Book of Philippians, Paul says:

“Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.”

Philippians 3:12

We have got to keep growing in the Lord. You know, Paul had a personal encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus and yet he could still say in Philippians 3:10:

“…that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death…”

You see, we already have His Holy Spirit within us when we are born again. We have His church around us and the Holy Bible with us. We have everything we need but we need to keep growing. The Bible is God’s written word, it is our ultimate and the absolute teacher. The Bible is our adviser, our peace-maker in the home and our marriages. What does the Bible say... And that is the answer!

The Bible is also our conscience - It tells us when we are doing something that is wrong or when we are doing something right. The Bible corrects us when we are on the wrong road or when we are making a poor business decision. The Bible prepares us for the work ahead and equips us with the right tools.

God’s Holy Word, the Bible, is alive. It is not dead. Every time I read this book it tells me something different. You know that the Bible exposes our innermost thoughts and our desires, the desires of our hearts. I want to read a very special scripture to you which is so beautiful. It is found in Hebrews, listen to this:

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Hebrews 4:12

I wish I had known this when I was a young man. It would have saved me so much pain and so many bad decisions... We just don’t need to do that anymore. You see Christian growth is what God wants us, He wants us to grow and that requires reading the Bible, meditating on the Word of God. It requires studying and memorising the Bible.

You know, when I went up into Central Africa, many, many times with that big 20-ton Mercedes Benz Seedsower with an 18-metre trailer, taking Bibles, clothes and food... We had tons of food, tons of clothes and tons of Bibles but do you know what the people wanted? They didn’t want the food, they didn’t want the clothes - they wanted the Word of God because they were starving for the truth.

Don’t waste your time, read the word - It will revive your soul!
Have a wonderful day, Jesus bless you and goodbye.
