Ask Anything...

And a very good morning to you! It is Tuesday morning, the 5th of April, the year 2022. And this is your friend, Angus Buchan with a thought for today.

“If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.
If you love Me, keep My commandments."

John 14:14-15

Wow, what a promise of God! Anything in Jesus’ name and He says He will do it for us... but He expects us to obey His commandments and to keep them. He is not going to give you a big Mercedes Benz car just because you want it, no! He is going to do anything that you ask Him in His name if you obey His commandments.

You know, many years ago, I had a great desire to meet probably one of the world’s greatest Christian Gospel singers who lived in Ireland. I really wanted to meet him, I loved his music. I had come back from overseas and I was very tired. I was supposed to preach at a certain church in Kwazulu-Natal. I was so tired that I phoned them and I said, “Sorry, I cannot go. I feel the Lord wants me to rest.” They were not very happy with me but they did release me. It wasn’t a week later that I got an invitation to a city-wide campaign in South Africa and the music team that was going to play before I spoke was none other than this international Christian Gospel singer and his band! Now, that was the same weekend I had just said I could not go and speak at this other church.

I was sitting in a dilemma now, what do I do? This was a chance of a lifetime! I felt the Holy Spirit say, “You refused to go to the other church, you can’t make this appointment.” And I was really, really gutted actually. Anyway, I wrote to them and told them I could not make it. I didn’t tell them why and I thought, “Lord, you know that is the one thing I really wanted.” I want to tell you something when you obey God, He gives you the desires of your heart.

“Delight yourself also in the Lord,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart.”

Psalm 37:4

It wasn’t about 3 to 4 weeks later we got a phone call, the very singer was in Durban. He had a Sunday off and He wanted to come and sing for us in the service and he is bringing his band with him - What, I couldn’t believe it! He came up to the farm, he did a beautiful praise and worship service for us. I preached the Gospel straight after him. He came to my house, we had lunch together and since then, we have met each other in Ireland and in Canada.

God says anything that you ask in His name, He will do for you if you obey His commandments. Have a wonderful day.
