Planted by The River

And a very good morning to you! It is the 7th of April, the year 2022, Thursday morning. And this is your friend, Angus Buchan with a thought for today.

“Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.”

Psalm 1:1-3

What a beautiful promise from God for us this morning. Spending time with God each day is number one. Avoid bad company, remember - Eagles don’t fly around with turkeys. Oh no, they fly close to the Lord, keeping away from negative people. Avoid them like the plague because they continually complain. Rather be that man or woman getting up early in the morning, delighting themselves in the Lord’s holy word, it's like fresh manna from Heaven every day. We need to be like that tree planted by the rivers of water, always bringing forth fruit in season and out of season because the roots are focused and fixed in the river.

Christians by the way are not exempt from troubles. So there is no scripture that I can find in the Bible that says, “Come to Jesus and all your troubles will be over.” I can’t find it, because it is not there. Jesus walks with us through the fire, He doesn’t take us out of the fire. We need to understand that. We are here in this world, which is a fallen world, but the Lord says if we spend time with Him, every morning, we will succeed. Our lives will not crumble when the heat is on, on the contrary, we will prosper because God is with us. You know that beautiful scripture in Hebrews that says:

“The Lord is my helper;
I will not fear.
What can man do to me?”

Hebrews 13:6

I want to say to you today that you need to look at that glass of water - Is it half-full or is it half-empty? Well you see, that depends on who you are spending time with. If you are spending time with doubters, they will tell you, every time, that the glass is half-empty. The person who is spending time with the Lord, who continues to meditate on the Bible, will tell you it is half-full.

Today, go out after you have spent time with God and tell the people that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forevermore.

Have a wonderful day.
Jesus bless you and goodbye.
