Holiness
“He went a little farther, and fell on the ground, and prayed that if it were possible, the hour might pass from Him. And He said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.”
You see, when Jesus walked on this earth, yes, He is God, but He was also very much man. That is why I love Him and I can identify with Him so very easily. He understands when you and I cry out to Him for help because He has been there Himself.
I was talking to a young university student just last week, about holiness. The Bible says without it we shall not see God, Hebrews 12:14. And we said that holiness is the end product of obedience - In other words, when we obey the will of God, automatically we become holy men and women. Now, Jesus did not want to drink of the cup of suffering, pain and eventually, crucifixion but He did it... not My will but Your will, Father be done.
In 1989 I drove into the little town of Ladysmith in my farm clothes and with a flask of coffee. I drove down that road to book the town hall by faith for our very first-ever campaign. I remember like yesterday, Father God asking me, almost audibly, three questions:
Number One:
“Are you prepared to be a fool for me?”
Well, I said, “Lord, that is easy. I am a fool anyway.”The second question,
“Are you prepared for people to speak all manner of evil about you for My name’s sake?”
I hesitated and then said, “Lord, I think I can handle that one.”And then He asked me the third question and the tears started to run down my face: “Are you prepared to see less of your family for My name’s sake?
And I had to answer, “Lord, only by Your grace and by Your strength.”
I made those decisions and I did it. I am so pleased that I did because I have had the most amazing and exciting life. It is not finished yet by the way!
Go out today and obey what the Lord has told you to do. It doesn’t matter how painful it is. It doesn’t matter how confusing it is, you don’t have to understand - Just obey Him and He will see you through.
