What Are You Focusing On?

I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Friday morning, the 30th of June, 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

We start in 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 a very well-known scripture to all of us:

"For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal (fleshly) but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,…"

Then we go to Philippians 4:8-9, and this is what Paul says:

"Finally, (just think of that word) brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you."

We need to ask ourselves a question this morning. What are we focusing on? What are we concentrating on? We need to be very careful. You see, this battle you and I are fighting is not about the physical. It's not about the body. Yes, I love training as well, I really do. I like to keep myself in good shape, but it's a mental battle. The battle is in the mind; it's not even in the heart. We need to be so careful about what we are focusing on. Be careful what you read, and be careful what you are watching on television, on your device, or your cell phone!

I remember there was a young man who acted as the Joker in the movie, Batman. He was acting as that demon. Eventually, he died from an overdose of drugs. I want to say to you today. Be very careful how you conduct yourself. We need to read the Bible. We need to read the Psalms. They are so soothing, and they bring peace to the heart. We need to read the Gospels. You say some of it you don't understand. It doesn't matter. What about starting with the Gospel of John? It is so simple, straightforward and uplifting. We need to read encouraging devotionals. Be careful of the company that you are keeping. Keep away from negative people. Protect and guard your minds against the pollution of this world. Don't chase after negative things. We are instead to find out God's opinion of the matter.

It is like that little mouse and the snake. The mouse can run away but gets hypnotised by the snake, and eventually, the snake eats him. Don't let that happen to you today.

Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,
Goodbye.
