Freely Give

I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Thursday morning, it is the 29th of June, 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

"I have been young, and now am old;
Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken,
Nor his descendants begging bread.
He is ever merciful, and lends;
And his descendants are blessed."
Psalm 37:25-26

"So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver".
Corinthians 9:7

You know, even as our Father God is a Giver, so too do we need to be givers. We need to give and give freely because God loves a cheerful giver. Don't give God something reluctantly; He would rather you don't give it to Him. We have to give with the correct heart, and we need to teach our children also to be givers and not takers. Our Heavenly Father is an absolute example. John 3:16, the most famous verse in the whole Bible, tells us that our Father is a giver.

"For God so loved the world that He gave - thats right, freely, He gaveHis only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life."

When we give, we must give with the right attitude. We are not giving to an insurance company which says, "You give so much and we will pay you back so much." No, we give unconditionally, and we give out of gratitude and thanksgiving for what God has given to you and me. You see, it's not how much we give that counts. Remember the widow?Jesus sat in the temple and said to His disciples. "Watch, you see that old widow, she has put a couple of mites into the collection but she has given everything that she has. That rich man came with gold, that's only the surplus of what he owns. It didn't cost him anything." We need to give freely because we love Jesus.

Some of my most treasured gifts that I have received and which I cherish have been given to me by little children and by old poor people. One mother showed me something that her little boy had been saving up for months to give to us for the Kingdom of God. I can't remember if it was an event, a Mighty Men maybe or a stadium event, but he came with his cents, and it brought me to tears because he gave from a heart of love.

Today, give and God will give back to you pressed down, shaken together and running over.

Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,
Goodbye.
