Rest In The Lord

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Wednesday morning, the 28th of June, 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

We start in the Book of Psalms 55:22:

“Cast your burden on the Lord, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.”

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28

It is Jesus who shall sustain us. Our peace and our rest are found only in Him. It is not any doing of ourselves. It is all about God working in and through us. That gives you and me the peace and rest we all so desperately are looking for in this needy world in which we are living.

You know, one of my heroes is a man named James Hudson Taylor. As a young Englishman, he took the Gospel of Jesus Christ to China. He went over there on his own and was instrumental in bringing no less than a thousand families from England to China to share the good news of Jesus Christ with the Chinese people. When he got older, he got quite sick, and had to go back to Europe to recuperate, to get better. While he was there, the horrific Boxer Rebellion broke out in China when the Chinese people started to massacre the missionaries, and he could not get back to China because, in those days, it took up to six months to get back to China on a sailing boat. The reports were coming in constantly, saying, “This family got murdered”; “That family is missing”; “We don’t know where those missionaries have gone.” He was so overcome with grief and pain that he couldn’t even read his Bible. He could not even pray; he was so desperate. Then he got a letter from his good friend, George Müller, who started the children’s homes in Bristol, England, and the message was, “Just trust in the faithfulness of a faithful God.” And it gave him peace.

You see, it is all about the Lord. Cast your cares upon Him because He cares for you. You will find that in 1 Peter 5:7. It is nothing that we can do - it is our trust in the Lord that gives us peace and rest. So today, just rest in the Lord and He will undertake for you. He has promised that He will never leave you and He will never forsake you.

Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,
Goodbye.
