Pray At All Times

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Tuesday morning, the 27th of June, 2023 and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

We start in the Gospel of Matthew 6:6. Jesus says:

“But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”

The power of faithful prayer. Maybe when you woke up this morning, you were a bit fearful, maybe you are a bit anxious about the future, or maybe there is some stress in your life. Well, from experience, I want to tell you that prayer neutralises all fear, stress and being anxious. Prayer fills us with a calm and peaceful heart and mind.
Philippians 4:6 says:

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; …”

You see, it is the effective, fervent righteous prayer of a man or a woman that avails much. (James 5:16). Our Lord Jesus prayed more than anybody. He prayed in the early morning. Many a time, the disciples were looking for Him, “Lord, where have you been?” “I have been up the mountain. I have been praying and speaking to My Father.” We need to pray. We need to pray in all circumstances. We need to pray in all seasons, whether you are flying in an aeroplane, driving a motorcar, whether you are sitting in your office. You can pray. You don’t have to pray out loud. You can pray in your heart.

Now, very early this morning, I went out for a ride on my mountain bike. Now, I have a light in the front, and I have a red reflector that flashes at the back of the bike. It was very, very dark and as I went out, I was praying, praying as I was riding my mountain bike. There wasn’t a soul on this country road that I ride on, but all of a sudden, I hit a wall of mist and fog. I want to tell you, it was so thick that I couldn’t see more than 3 feet in front of me. I thought, “Now what shall I do?” because I could hardly see the road. Should I turn back? I had already come halfway. And do you know what I did? I carried on, praying. “Lord, if you will just lead me, I will follow you.” I thought of that beautiful Psalm 23, when David spoke to the Lord Jesus Christ, “The Lord is My Shepherd, I shall not fear.” That's right, if I walk through darkness, He is with me.

I want to say to you today, pray! When you pray, things come right every single time. God will give you the answer to the decision you have to make. Billy Graham said, “If I had to live again, I would pray more and speak less.” That is one of the greatest preachers that ever lived. There is power in prayer. Today, make that decision.

Jesus bless you and goodbye.
