Our Guide

Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed.
— James 5:16

“Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness because of my enemies;

Make Your way straight before my face.” Psalm 5:8

Our Guide... He leads us. Jesus doesn’t direct us, He leads us. He leads you and me through the rough times and through the good times. He carries us through the hard times. Remember that old story about footsteps in the sand?

“Lord, over time the going got rough there were only one set of footprints. Where were you?”
He said, “I was carrying you, my son.”

One of my favourite hymns is:

Trust and Obey,
For there is no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
Than to trust and obey.

There are so many voices calling in these last days. People telling us to go this way or to go that way. They are telling us to stop, they are telling us to hurry and they are normally telling us from behind. But the Good Shepherd, He leads from the front. He knows where He is going because He has been there before. Our leader is not sitting in His ivory tower shouting out directions to us, no, no! He is walking directly in front of us because He is The Word of God. You see, the Bible is our compass:

“As for God, His way is perfect;
The word of the Lord is proven”
2 Samuel 22:3

It has been proved!

You know, the shortcut is very rarely the quickest way home - Isn’t that right? I have learned that the hard way so many times. I am very reluctant to follow a guide that is all full of theory, I want to follow a practical man. I want to follow a guide who has walked the talk and who bears the scars of many hard journeys. Jesus has scars on His Hands, His Feet and in His Side from many a hard journey.

He knows the way home - In fact, He has gone ahead for you and me to prepare a place for us in Heaven. Our guide says:

“I am the way, the truth, and the life.”
John 14:6

Have a wonderful day today as you are directed by the Guide who will take you home.
God bless you.
