'Old Salt'

And as He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. 17 Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”
— Mark 1:16-17

Jesus didn’t go up to the temple and recruit the priests to come and win souls for the Kingdom of God - No, He used ordinary working folk like you and me. Those are the men that Jesus called to do the work of saving the lost. Remember, the big shoals of fish are found not in the harbour but out in the deep waters of the stormy seas of life, the Lord chose men of experience to go out there and to catch those fish. God needs men and women, boys and girls who have been out there before.

You know, my family roots originate from the northeast of Scotland and the fishermen there go into the most dangerous seas on earth, right up by the North Arctic Circle - Very cold indeed.

These trawlers will go out for up to two weeks at a time to catch fish. They put their lives on the line every time they sail but you see, they are experienced, 'salted' sailors. They know the job... They know the lay of that sea and very rarely do they come back empty-handed. You and I need to do the same - We need to get out into the deep seas and fish for souls. Practical experience cannot be duplicated by anything.

Precious souls - Dying men and women, boys and girls are waiting for you and me today. Whether you are an electrician, a mechanic, teacher, farmer, housewife, computer technician, doctor or schoolboy, we need to get out there and cast our nets into the deep waters. You might say: "Well, what do we do?" Just tell them what Jesus means to you!

God bless you and have a wonderful day today as the Lord shows you where to find the fish.
God bless you.
