Sold Out
Genesis 37:28
There is nothing worse than to be betrayed or to be sold out, so to speak. Especially by those you love and trust, those who are the nearest and dearest to you.
Joseph was sold for twenty silver shekels to Arab traders. We also remember how Jesus was sold out by one in His trusted inner circle of disciples, for the sum of thirty silver shekels. I cannot even begin to think of anything worse to try to deal with than to be cheated on by the one you love and trust.
That is why adultery is so extremely painful, and so very hard to deal with. Or a trusted business partner who is 'cooking the books' and stealing from you. What about a brother or sister-in-the-faith, who after having been sworn to secrecy, goes out into the highways and byways and blurts out those cherished inner secrets to whosoever!
How do we even begin to deal with such a painful situation?
Well, let's first look at how Joseph handled it. He never held a grudge against his brothers but simply committed the very tragic and unfair circumstance to God alone, and then made the best of what he had left. Joseph trusted the Lord in every situation and looked to Him alone to be delivered from the many challenges he still had to face. And Father God not only set Joseph free but also used him in a most powerful way - God made him Prime Minister over the greatest nation on earth at that time, Egypt!
How did Jesus handle His betrayal by Judas? He did not resist or even rebuke him, but said: 'You had better go and do what you planned'.
Not only Judas but all of the disciples fled and forsook Jesus. Matthew 26:56
Jesus did exactly what you and I must do and that is to leave the situation in the capable hands of our Heavenly Father and go on to finish the work we’ve been called too!
There is no point in 'crying over spilt milk’. We have to complete our task here on earth and move on. Remember the greatest fact of all, which is found in the book of Romans, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31.
