Serving

Jesus rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.
— John 13:4-5 (NKJV)

John 21:13 (NKJV) “13 Jesus then came and took the bread and gave it to them, and likewise the fish.”

Jesus fed His disciples, He also washed their dirty feet.

We need to imitate Christ, that is according to 1 Corinthians 11:1 (NKJV) where Paul says:
Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.”

Remember the word minister according to the Oxford Dictionary means ‘servant.’ So if we are ministers, we are servants.

I remember getting a lot of flak, years ago when we first started with the Mighty Men Conferences - on more than one occasion, I was told "I thought that men of God were supposed to be humble and yet you are calling yourselves mighty men". But they got it wrong - we are not mighty in ourselves but mighty in Christ, and that is a very, very distinct difference. It is through the work that the Lord Jesus Christ is doing, through our lives, that makes us mighty men.

I remember like it was yesterday, on a late-night radio interview program, a liberal disk jockey, who had no regard for the Mighty Men movement, was trying to catch me out. He asked me a question: “Do you assist your wife with the housework... for example, do you vacuum-clean the house for her?”

My answer was a definite ‘No’. I think he was quite happy with his question because he thought he had caught me out, I could almost hear him giggling in the background...

I answered: “We don’t own a vacuum cleaner. I use a broom to sweep the house out.”

A man who has been a great encouragement to me over many years is the late evangelist Reinhardt Bonke. He preached the Gospel to millions of lost souls. I heard a story once, that someone was looking for him after one of his big events, where he had his big tent. He went around the side and saw a caravan there and went and knocked on the door. This was very late at night, not only had Reinhardt been preaching but he had also been praying for the sick. The caravan door opened and there seated was all of Reinhardt Bonke’s attendants and workers. Reinhard Bonke was standing there with an apron, around his waist and he was busy cooking a late supper for all his workers.

We need to be servants if we are going to be effective witnesses for Jesus Christ.

Jesus bless you,
