Peaceful Sleep
Many people struggle to go to sleep, they battle with insomnia, it is a state where someone cannot go to sleep.
I battled with that a lot just before I gave my life to Jesus Christ. I would work so hard that I could not switch off as it were and would lie awake at night worrying about the work I had to do the next day. It became a vicious circle, because the more I was concerned about going to sleep so that I would be strong for work the following day, the more I couldn’t sleep and I would literally go into a cold sweat trying to go to sleep.
But when I met Jesus, I can honestly say to you that I have had no problem with going to sleep. Psalm 4:8 (NKJV):
I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.
You see when the Lord is in full control of your life, you have nothing to fear. Paul said in Philippians 1:21 (NKJV):
For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
And so if the Lord is totally in control of your life, you should not have a problem. What I would encourage you to do, if you are struggling to fall asleep, is just to lie quietly and I want to draw a picture for you, if I may? I want you to think of the Lord Jesus in a very big armchair and you walk up, like a little child, and climb up onto His lap, put your head on His strong chest and let Him put His loving arms around you and rest in Him. You don’t have to count sheep as the old adage goes, just rest in Him. Maybe just remember some of your favourite scriptures like Hebrews 13:5 where the Lord says, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Dwell on these things and the Lord will give you His peace and His sleep.
Have a wonderful week.
Jesus bless you
