Priorities
The Bible tells us in Mark 8:36 (NKJV):
For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?
I had the great privilege of riding in a mountain bike race, 25km, with my grandson last weekend. I want to tell you that it was indeed a highlight for me. For us to be able to speak together on the way down to the race (not too much on the way home as I think we were both too exhausted to speak), I just realise again, the importance of spending time with family. You know we seem to rush here and there for everybody else, but when it comes to the family, we always say, they will understand, I’ll get to them later and then of course it never happens.
So I was phoned up at the last minute by my grandson’s mother, who said there’s a race on, and I’ll be honest with you, I wasn’t too excited about it. But I said I’m going to come and it’s the best decision I’ve made for a long, long time. It wasn’t about getting the gold medal or the silver medal, it was about finishing together. In fact we weren’t even in the same batch, he was put in a batch ahead of me but we did get to the finish line together with a lot of aches and pains, but what an incredible time we had.
I really want to encourage you this week, to spend time with your family, because we don’t have our family forever and sometimes the best way to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ is just to love one another unconditionally, that’s what Jesus said we must do. John 15:13 (NKJV) says:
Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.
We need to lay down our lives for our family, because charity (love) always begins at home.
Jesus bless you
