He Who Promised is Faithful

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
— Hebrews 10:23

I looked up the Oxford Dictionary for the definition of the word promise - It means ‘an assurance that one will do something’.

How often, men, have we disappointed our children? We have promised them that we will be there at the prize-giving at school, and just before we left the farm or our work, there was a breakdown and we just couldn’t make it, and your little boy or little girl said, “Aah, dad - where were you?” It is so devastating for the child and for his father.

But God - never! He will never ever go back on His promise. If He has promised to do something for you, He will do it because He is a faithful God. In fact, if you look at the Word of God in 1 Thessalonians, it says:

He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.
— 1 Thessalonians 5:24

Whatever He has told you, He will do.
I remember a movie many, many years ago called Forest Gump. Maybe you saw it?
It was a very touching movie about a little boy who was a little bit slowed up at school and his mom was so faithful. She looked after him. She was a single parent and he grew up and everything he did, he succeeded in.

He became an American Football Star, he became a ping-pong champion of the world, he went to Vietnam and became a war hero and was decorated by the President.
He became a multi-millionaire because a friend of his bought some shares in an unknown company called The Big Apple… That’s right, Apple Computers! Everything he did, he succeeded in.

He fell in love with his childhood sweetheart, they had a baby together and then she died and he was left with this little boy of his - four or five years old. And the first day he went to school, I will never forget it - it brings a tear to my eye, just thinking about it - he said to his little boy, “I promise you that when you come home from school today, I will be waiting for you, right here, sitting on this bench. And the big yellow bus took his boy off to school and he just sat there the whole day, waiting for his little son to come home.

The Lord Jesus Christ says He will never leave you and He will never forsake you. Hebrews 13:5. You say, “Angus, isn’t He too busy?” No, He is not too busy for you. He created you.

He loves you and He is watching over you. He will be there for you when you come home!
