Jesus Who Died For Us

If we go to the Book of Deuteronomy, Chapter 9 and verse 6:

“Therefore understand that the Lord your God is not giving you this good land to possess because of your righteousness, for you are a stiff-necked people.”

The Lord is not giving us anything because of our own goodness.

It’s only by the goodness of His Son, Jesus Christ, and because of what He did for you and me.

Luke Chapter 23, verse 34:

Jesus says: “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they do”.

Oh, my dear friend, we cannot earn our salvation.

There is nothing good in you and me at all.

You have heard us say it before - good people don’t go to Heaven, believers go to Heaven - people who believe that Jesus Christ died for us.

Psalm 51 and verse 5: King David says from the time of his birth there was sin in his life when he was conceived in his mother’s womb.

Now, I can hear some old grannies getting a bit irritated with me when they say, “My little Johnny, my little Mary, they are little angels! They never do anything wrong. “

Come on, granny! Let’s man up and let’s be honest, have you ever had to tell little Johnny or Mary, “Please, just be naughty, just once in your life?”

Of course not. It is by grace that we are saved.

It is undeserved loving-kindness, unmerited favor. That is what grace means.

I remember distinctly going to Scotland as a young man with my brother and we had a wonderful meal at my uncle’s home.

It was a lavish affair and I said to my uncle, “You don’t even know us. Why are you spoiling us like this?”

And then tears filled his eyes. He said, “Son, it is not because of you. It is because of your mother because when I was a little boy, my mother died early, and your mom became a mother to me. I am doing it for her.”

Remember, we cannot earn our way to Heaven.
